We’ve had a lot of that running rampant at our house. Last night was the first since Sunday that I didn’t have to get up with a puking child. YUCK! Sunday night was Luke and Nathan. They spent all of Monday on the couches in the basement. Caleb was a HUGE help around here. He went way beyond the call of duty! Tuesday was Caleb, but by about lunch time he was feeling well enough to get up and around. Tuesday night was Zeke’s turn. He’s still too little to fully get the run-to-the-bathroom or throw-up-in-a-bowl thing. Let’s just say there was some laundry to be done from his sickness. After he’d thrown up the third time he said, “Mom, sick people get to watch shows!” I told him it was the middle of the night and asked if he thought he ought to go to sleep instead. No such luck…he insisted. We got set up in the basement and turned on “The Sound of Music”. I was really hoping it would bore him to sleep, but that plan didn’t quite pan out. The child stayed awake (and threw up several times) during the whole show!! We did finally go to sleep around 3, I think.

Wednesday was a totally wasted day. My brain was having a hard time functioning so we called off school (for the second time this week) and just hung out. Jon was home all day because he’d been sick Tuesday night too. He did go out in the afternoon and picked up a few things, but completely wore himself out. What a day!

We have had some good things happen this week too. :-) Tuesday night was Mom’s Night for the homeschool group and I got to go! It’s been two months since I’ve been. It was a Christmas Tea party. We all brought desserts to share and had a good night of fellowship. We played a game where we broke into groups and had to act out parts of the Twelve Days of Christmas song. It was a riot! My group had the lines for “three French hens” and “four calling birds”. Guess maybe it was one of those had-to-be-there moments, because now that I’m trying to think of how to write it up, it just doesn’t translate well. Being moms we were inspired to shout, “Hey you! Don’t make me come up there!” for the calling birds. :-) For the French hens we simply flapped our wings and said, “Oh, bach, bach” in our best French accent.

When I go to these meetings I’m always amazed at how old I feel. So many of the women appear to be about my age, but only have one or two children and all much younger than mine. Maybe it gives me an advantage? I don’t know. But I did have the opportunity to talk to a gal who has a four-year-old son and has just decided to homeschool him. She feels so overwhelmed with trying to figure out what her day should look like, what curriculum (ha! I can’t even spell that!) to use and all those just-getting-started things. We talked for a long time. Hopefully I was able to encourage her.

We tried to go to the library today, but failed, sorta. Our library, the one we’ve gone to for years, is closing at the end of December. The ballot issue to raise property taxes a measly $5 a year didn’t pass so that means four of our Aurora Public libraries are closing. We are so bummed out. There is another library close to us so we thought we’d give it a try today. By close, I mean it’s a 15 minute drive instead of the usual 5. So we made our 15 minute drive, pulled into the parking lot and I immediately noticed that it looked rather empty. We pulled up where we could read the hours — 1 PM to 9 PM on Thursdays. Dumb, D-U-M, Dumb! Why didn’t I think to check the hours before we left?!?!? We made the 15 minute drive back home talking about how to better execute our plan tomorrow. Nathan doesn’t deal well with disappointments, especially when it comes to the library, but I managed to talk him through it on the way home! :-)

We did school today and then I spent the afternoon preparing for the Mission service tonight. My kids are getting used to me going in my room, locking the door and not coming out for several hours. Thankfully they can pretty much handle themselves. I’m also thankful that the Lord blessed and service went well tonight.

That about sums up our week so far. Man, I’m as bad as Becki…boring, day-to-day post with no pictures. :-)
Sorry folks, that’s all I’ve got tonight. Hopefully it’ll be better next time.

‘Night!

How come my borind day to day stuff sounds boring, but yours doesn’t at all??? I rather enjoyed it, though I’m sad to hear you’ve had more sick-o’s. I hope all stay well for a good long while now! I think it’s great that you enjoy your homeschool Mom’s stuff. I’ve tried things like that before and always WANT to get involved… but I’m always so uncomfortable in a crowd of people who I don’t know! I think it’s cool that you’ve found a good group you really enjoy. The 12 days of Christmas game sounds hysterical! Oh, and I’m sorry about your library closing–what a bummer! I think that’s it. :-) Great post!

oooooh, so sorry you guys have been sick! That stinks. (literally, sometimes!) ;-)
Your post is NOT boring. Moms love to read or hear every detail of what’s going in their kids’ lives.
So glad you’ve got a good Homeschool group. I always have enjoyed getting out and being a part of a wholesome group outside the church realm. I’ve made a lot of friends through the years in such places.
ALL the city libraries closed? That’s just WRONG! Unbelievable.

micah and i have just gotten over being sick and are nice and healthy again and now i find out that all my family down in TN is sick! i told them they had better get over it by next thursday cause i don’t want to get sick all over again- especially right before Christmas! once a season is more than enough for me!

i can’t wait until our kids are old to homeschool. even now i have all these ideas and things i want to do- but no kids to do them with!

close a library??? what are they thinking?!?!?! libraries are essential to life itself— and what’s with being closed during the morning??? public school students aren’t the only ones that read!!! ah, the injustice of it all

    Tammy…it worked!!! :-)

Mom, no, not ALL the public libraries are closing, just the one that is closest to us and that we go to EVERY week.

I’m sorry to hear everyone was sick bit glad they’re better now!
At least you live in a city where there is more than one library. If they closed ours we’d be in big trouble! I’m so glad you were able to talk Nathan through his dissappointment! What a great kid! :0)
